What does this qualification cover?

This qualification provides an ideal taster for those who may be new to the sector or new to the world of work. It is accessible to learners of all ages who may want to understand more about working in health and social care. It aims to introduce some basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment in the sector.

The qualification covers the areas of communication, equality, diversity and inclusion, personal development, role of the social care worker, handling information, health and safety, safeguarding, duty of care and person-centred approaches.

It is a must have for anyone taking the adult Intermediate Health and Social Care apprenticeship.

Who is it suitable for?

Anyone working towards a career in adult health and social care in a supervised job role.

This qualification is suitable for learners aged 19 and above.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification.

How is this qualification structured?

The qualification is made up of nine mandatory units:

• Unit 1 Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
• Unit 2 Understand the role of the social care worker
• Unit 3 Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or childrens and young peoples settings
• Unit 4 Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings
• Unit 5 Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings
• Unit 6 Principles of communication in adult social care settings
• Unit 7 Principles of personal development in adult social care settings
• Unit 8 Understand health and safety in social care settings
• Unit 9 Understand how to handle information in social care settings

How is it assessed?

This qualification is assessed via an internally assessed and externally verified portfolio of evidence.

This qualification is available fully funded under the Adult Skills Fund stream and is free to the candidate.
